Hojas viñedo

Our history

Esteve i Gibert Viticultors, is the result of 8 generations dedicated to the cultivation of vines and the production of wines. Located in the subzone of the Serra d’Ordal, in a century-old Catalan farmhouse, 320m above sea level.

In 1976, the family decided to stop vinifying their own vineyards, and start selling 100% of the grapes to the large Penedès wineries, which at that time paid very well for the kilo of grapes. Since then, the Penedès began a downward price war, to the point that in 2009 this story took a step forward. Josep Esteve, his daughter, Laura, and his son-in-law, the young oenologist Albert López, reopen the Masia winery, and become winegrowers again, as they had done in the past. The smallest winery in the D.O. is born.

The family estate has 19 hectares of its own vineyards in the shade of the Massis de l’Ordal, which are cultivated in a strictly organic manner. However, in these early days, only a small part, a selection of the best vineyards, is destined to produce its wines. The rest, as has always been done, continues to be sold to other wineries, in anticipation of continuing to expand, year after year, its own production.

Thus, we find a winery that starts from respect, awareness, passion for nature, know-how and the tradition of 8 generations of winegrowers, and that complements it with Albert’s modern interpretation of its surroundings, the land, the climate, the landscape. … of the wonderful “Views” of the estate.
